How to protect your wallet from drainers
Most "I got hacked" stories are drainers that tricked someone into signing. Here is how to lock down your wallet so a single mistake cannot empty it.
Why this matters
Drainers rely on you signing a malicious transaction or approval. A few hard rules and a burner-wallet setup neutralize the overwhelming majority of them.
Step by step
- Use a dedicated burner. Trade memecoins from a separate, low-balance burner wallet so a bad signature can only reach what is inside it, never your main holdings.
- Never sign unverified transactions. Do not approve any transaction you did not initiate and cannot verify — especially "claim", "migrate", "verify", and "unlock" prompts.
- Distrust surprise airdrops and mints. Unexpected tokens with a claim site are almost always drainers. Never interact with them.
- Verify links and handles. Reach tools and projects only through bookmarked, verified links. Assume search ads, DMs, and lookalike domains are hostile.
- Revoke stale approvals. Periodically review and revoke token approvals you no longer need, so an old approval cannot be abused later.
- Treat unsolicited DMs as scams. No legitimate team or admin DMs you first. Assume any unsolicited "support" or "opportunity" is a drainer.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Trading from your main wallet.
- Signing prompts you do not understand.
- Clicking airdrop/mint claim links.
- Trusting DMs and search ads.
- Never revoking old approvals.
