How to spot a pump early
Catching a pump early — rather than chasing a vertical candle — is where most of the upside lives. The trick is reading the conditions that precede a move, not the move itself.
Why this matters
Buying late is the default way to become exit liquidity. Learning to read early demand (broadening buyers, accelerating volume on stable liquidity) shifts the odds in your favor.
Step by step
- Watch unique-buyer acceleration. The cleanest early signal is unique buyers climbing fast relative to the token's own baseline. New wallets entering = broadening, organic demand — the opposite of wash volume.
- Confirm volume is real, not washed. Pair rising volume with rising makers/unique buyers. Big volume from few wallets is wash trading, not a pump. Demand brings new participants, not just churn.
- Check liquidity is stable or rising. A real early pump happens on steady or growing liquidity. If price rises while liquidity drains, that is a manipulation or rug setup, not a healthy move.
- Look for a catalyst. Identify why now — a viral post, a narrative rotation, a listing. A move with a real catalyst and broadening buyers has follow-through; a move with neither fades.
- Avoid the late-chase zone. If the price is already vertical (+50% in minutes) and chat is euphoric, you are late. The best risk/reward is early in the move, before the parabola.
- Plan the exit before entering. Decide your take-profit ladder and invalidation up front. Early entries still need a plan, because early pumps reverse hard.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Chasing a vertical candle because of FOMO.
- Trusting raw volume without checking unique buyers.
- Ignoring draining liquidity during a "pump".
- Buying the tenth coin of a meta after it has already run.
- Entering with no exit plan and round-tripping the gain.
