What is Liquidity? (memecoin term explained)
Liquidity is the pool of paired tokens (for example SOL and a memecoin) sitting in an AMM that lets people buy and sell. The deeper the pool, the less each trade moves the price.

Why it matters to memecoin traders
Liquidity is the single most important number for a memecoin trader. Thin liquidity means you can get a great fill on the way in and an awful one on the way out — and it is the precondition for most rugs.
Key things to know about liquidity
- Quoted in dollars: a "$40k pool" holds roughly $20k of SOL and $20k of the token.
- Your slippage is a direct function of your trade size relative to pool depth.
- Liquidity that is locked or burned cannot be pulled by the dev; unlocked liquidity can vanish in one transaction.
- A pool that grows on real buys is healthy; a pool that only the dev funds is a warning sign.
- On Solana most memecoin liquidity lives on Raydium, Meteora, or graduates there from pump.fun.
A worked example
On a $30k pool, a $300 buy is 1% of the pool and will move price only slightly. The same $300 on a $3k pool is 10% of the pool — expect heavy slippage and a worse exit.
