How to evaluate a new memecoin launch
New launches are where the biggest gains and the worst rugs both live. A repeatable evaluation framework lets you triage dozens of launches quickly and only engage with the few worth the risk.
Why this matters
Thousands of coins launch daily and the vast majority fail. Without a framework you will either miss everything or ape everything. A checklist makes fast, consistent decisions possible.
Step by step
- Check the launch mechanics. Is it a pump.fun bonding-curve launch, a fresh Raydium pool, or something else? Know whether liquidity is the curve (pre-graduation) or a separate, ruggable LP.
- Measure early-holder concentration. Look at how much supply the first blocks took. Heavy sniping or a bundle buy means concentrated insider supply ready to dump on later buyers.
- Verify authorities and LP. Mint and freeze authority renounced? LP locked or burned (if past the curve)? These are non-negotiable baseline checks even on a hot launch.
- Read the demand quality. Are unique buyers broadening, or is it a few wallets faking volume? Real, widening participation separates a launch with legs from a pump-and-dump.
- Assess the narrative fit. Does it ride the current meta early, or is it a tired theme arriving late? Narrative timing is a major driver of whether a launch sustains.
- Decide size and exit before entering. If it passes, size small (launches are high-variance) and pre-set your take-profit and invalidation. If it fails any non-negotiable check, skip it.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Aping a launch on hype before checking holder concentration.
- Ignoring heavy sniping/bundling in the first blocks.
- Skipping authority and LP checks because "it is too early to rug".
- Mistaking wash volume for genuine launch demand.
- Oversizing a high-variance launch with no exit plan.
Quick checklist
- ☐ Launch mechanics understood
- ☐ Early-holder concentration measured
- ☐ Authorities + LP verified
- ☐ Demand quality (unique buyers) assessed
- ☐ Narrative timing considered
- ☐ Small size + exit plan set
