Solana's low launch cost means scams are cheap and abundant. A consistent safety routine is the highest-leverage habit you can build as a Solana memecoin trader.

Step by step

1. Open the token on Solscan. Pull up the mint on an explorer like Solscan to read the on-chain facts directly, rather than trusting chat or charting-tool hints.
2. Confirm mint authority is renounced. A live mint authority lets the team print unlimited supply and dilute you to zero. Renounced (null) mint authority is a baseline requirement.
3. Confirm freeze authority is renounced. A live freeze authority can freeze your token account so you cannot sell — a honeypot waiting to happen. It should be renounced.
4. Verify LP is locked or burned. Check that liquidity is locked (with a meaningful duration) or burned, not unlocked in the dev wallet. Unlocked dev LP is the rug button.
5. Review holder concentration. Exclude LP/burn wallets and check the top holders. Outsized single-wallet holdings, or many wallets funded by one source, signal dump risk.
6. Use a scanner as a second opinion. Run an automated rugcheck for a fast second opinion — but treat it as a floor, not a guarantee. Tools miss novel scams; pair them with your own read.
